With messy toddler boys and owning pets, my Nugget has had its fair share of crumbs, stains, and pet hair. However, washing and caring for the Nugget Comfort couch is super simple.

How to wash the Nugget Comfort Couch Cover?

The quick version is to wash on cold and hang dry.

Vacuum and Lint Roll:

The microsuede covers fabric tend to attract dirt and pet hair. Vacuum and lint roll prior to washing to get any dirt or pet hair.

Vacuuming prior will help make sure crumbs and pet hair does not get embedded into the fabric and leaving gunk in your washer.

I would love to say my house is always clean, but let’s be real we live in our home, we have pets, and my kids play on the Nuggets. πŸ˜›

Spot clean with Folex.

Nugget recommends using Folex for spot cleaning.

When I got my Nugget, I did not have Folex on hand. My son left popsicle marks. I spot cleaned it with water and dish soap and the popsicle marks disappeared. I let it dry for a few hours thinking everything would be okay…it left a HUGE water mark. I thought, well maybe I didn’t do it right let’s try again. I did and the water mark was bigger. You can probably get away with a water stain with a darker color (we have Harbor pillow packs), but with light and bright colors like Taxi Cab, it will show.

The water marks did disappear after I put my covers in the washing machine.

Washing

Nugget recommends to have it on a cold cycle to prevent shrinking. You can use any Free and Clear laundry detergent.

I pre treat any stains with Folex, choose the delicate option on my washing machine making sure the water is cold. My laundry detergent is Ecos Free and Clear.

Tip:

Wash the Nugget covers separately from a normal laundry load.

always zip my covers to prevent the zipper from snagging the microsuede. If the zippers are open, the zipper could potentially damage the cover.

Once all the covers are zipped, I place them in individual laundry mesh bags as an extra protection from the zipper. I get my mesh bags at Daiso, however they have a variety of mesh bags on Amazon.

Drying:

Air drying is the best to prevent any type of fabric shrinkage.

I have a collapsible drying rack that I use to dry clothes. I clip laundry hanging clips from Dollar Tree to hold our covers. The rack is perfect to use on a Nugget Comfort because I really do not like draping wet clothes on my bannister or door.

Why I do not dry my covers in the dryer:

I got my Taxi Cab Nugget second hand. The original owner dried the Nugget in the dryer “low heat.” When I received it, I noticed some parts of the microsuede cover felt a little “hard.”

With our old (gas) dryer, this would happen to our clothes. Even though my heat was on the low setting it would “melt” some of the fabric. I always hang dry any clothing or fabric that I really care for.

Tip:

Wash and hang dry at night for you to be a little stress free with your naked nuggets. Animals and biting toddlers might think the foam taste delicious. πŸ˜›

Other solutions to not having a naked Nugget is have an extra cover or get the Never Nudes. Prior to the Never Nudes I always placed my naked foam Nuggets in a closet.

Cover Snags and Pulls

I found this tip to fix fabric pulls on Facebook. I have never done it before, but thought it would be a great share.

Use the Snag Nab it to repair any fabric pulls.

“you put the needle on the outside of the fabric where the snag is and pull it through completely to the inside. It grabs the snag on its way through. Larger pulls may take more than one pass.”

“it grabs the snag and pulls it through to the inside where you can’t see it and it can’t get pulled more. When you just cut them off it can turn into a hole.”

Putting the Covers on

Once the cover is dry, you can put the covers on the foam. If the covers feel tighter, just remember you let the foam breathe a little. The air between the foam might slightly expand. Just push down on the foam and zip up. If you washed your covers in cold and hang dry, there shouldn’t be any shrinkage.

If you have any other tips and tricks I would love to hear them!
