How I found my balance with working out
National level fitness competitor to couch potato. Life happens- no matter what stage of life you are in there are obstacles and it is a constant balancing act on your current priorities. When I was in college, I had all the time in the world to work out and prepare 6 meals a day twice a week. I competed in multiple bodybuilding shows and was the typical gym rat. Fast forward to life with two boys, three dogs, one cat, and a 54 gallon aquarium. I don’t have the time like I used to. If someone asked me to prepare my meals like I did in college, I would laugh and would gladly not accept the challenge. Even if I prepared the meals, I don’t think I would have time to eat it.
When my life shifted, my priorities changed. I knew that I couldn’t spend hours in the gym like I used to and to be honest I did not want to. I didn’t want to push my body to the limit to see how heavy I could lift. I would rather do a quick workout and spend time at home with my sons. Once I realized my priorities changed I adjusted my goals. After I established my goals, I had to give myself the leniency that I would not be able work out like I used to. (This is harder to do). And finally time, I needed to keep reminding myself that I need time for my body to change and I choose to spend time with my sons.
Edilene’s Goals
-
- Exercise 2-3 times a week to fit in pre-pregnancy clothes by July 2018.
- Build a stronger core (abdominal and pelvic floor muscles) by engaging my core when performing different exercises and daily activities (walking, sitting, driving, etc.) to decrease the chance of any future injuries.
I am happy to share my work out routines, but please note that everyone has different goals and body types the exercises I do, might not work for you and your body.
